BIMStreamer-keep Up With the Change

10 October 2021 | Adam Końca | bim

BIM, or building information modeling, is the latest trend in construction and the next step towards digitalizing reality, which will optimize design, construction, and operation of built assets. The information provided within BIM objects serves as the foundation for the overall model. BIM differs from systems like CAD in that it allows for more precise definition of data parameters and more intelligent object behavior at the design stage.

The major benefits of BIM implementation

Many advantages come with a BIMStreamer platform, including:

  • centralizing data in a variety of formats from several sources,
  • sharing products with a full set of features with designers,
  • full control over data and the ability to manage it easily,
  • model parameters or product features are automatically updated for all locations where your model is,
  • streamlined marketing activities (more sales and customer statistics),
  • the flexibility to use BIM on the cloud from anywhere and at any time.

A solution of this nature appears even more vital in light of the escalating market dynamics. First-time BIM users may be intimidated by the technology as it seems complex. The reality is far from that. After a brief introduction to the fundamentals, everything becomes fairly simple. Let's get started!

What is the overall structure of the BIM library management system? First and foremost, it is impossible to speak of BIM without mentioning the Single source of Truth. Basically, it's a digital location where all kinds of product information is kept. From here, data can be freely modified and then automatically updated in specified channels spread throughout the network. How?

All of this is possible because of the auto update feature, which updates the geometry of existing BIM drawings immediately upon loading the latest versions of attached projects, ensuring that all files remain fully compatible while the current BIM model is being edited. With a dedicated connection to internal databases based on referential models, information about referential products can be embedded into BIM models and shared with designers on external channels.

The omnichannel feature allows you to submit BIM models to any marketing channel, including mobile apps, e-commerce platforms, product catalogs, online libraries, and external BIM portals. The multilanguage feature, on the other hand, allows for the automated generation of objects in multiple languages.

BIM objects may be centrally controlled, automatically updated, and published to several channels at the same time thanks to BIMStreamer’s technologically advanced solutions. BIM has numerous additional applications, like:

  • support for any data format capable of describing geometry and storing product data (geometry update),
  • calculating the number of technical attributes for BIM files, which may vary depending on the region to which they will be sent (level of information),
  • generating BIM objects intended for tenders (anonymization),
  • handling inquiries.

The simplest way to manage BIM libraries

BIM is based on professional 3D models with parametric features for individual elements. This helps to accelerate the editing process and makes it simpler to edit the project. However, BIM is not enough.

In most cases, basic information such as dimensions, weight, and color is all that is included in the BIM model, and it is not updated on a regular basis. Manually entering product data and constantly checking for updates is time consuming and unproductive at best. Consider the following situation: A company has 1,000 product families, each with ten products. That’s a total of 10,000 files containing only product information. What if this company is planning to expand into Europe? Now we have to create 30 language versions for 46 countries, needing new BIM files for each version! Even if someone were brave enough to take on the task of manually entering all this data (and we really doubt that), the entire team would be kept busy for months, if not years.

This is where BIMStreamer, the newest solution for the automated generation of BIM models, comes to the rescue. With integrated product documentation, 3D BIM models facilitate selection, design, evaluation, construction, and even project management.

Introducing your business to the BIMStreamer environment has numerous benefits. Until now, only a handful of people had knowledge of how to create BIM libraries. With BIMStreamer, object management is now simpler and more intuitive. Here, anyone can become an expert!
